Cosmetic Ear Cropping Sacramento
Sacramento Veterinarian Dr. Susan Barrett offers California’s most comprehensive, high quality all-breed ear crop service. She has been a practice owner of four AAHA hospitals and a practicing small animal veterinarian in the Sacramento area since 1981. She presently owns Watt Avenue Pet Hospital in Sacramento, which opened in 1995. As a 1980 honors graduate of Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine & an assistant professor of anatomy and physiology, I mastered the skill of all-breed ear cropping from one of the top veterinarians in the field who was also a professor of anesthesiology at Oklahoma State and an all breed judge. I am proud to offer my specialty services to you.
I have been performing high quality ear cropping for over 36 years on all breeds of dogs, including Great Danes, Schnauzers, Dobermans, Miniature Pinschers, Neapolitan Mastiffs, Boxers, Cane Corsos, and Staffordshire Terriers. I am proud to say that during this time I have never had an anesthetic death, major complication or complaint associated with my services and have an outstanding record of producing beautiful, standing ears. I have a 99 per cent success rate of both ears standing if clients follow my guidelines. I have hundreds of clients who have had this procedure performed on their pets. They have taken their dogs to local, state and national competitions. The vast majority of owners just want a dog they can be proud of.
How are we different? First of all I require a complete examination and consultation for all potential patients and clients prior to the procedure, During this visit I not only perform a physical examination and history, but I discuss the ear-cropping procedure in detail including risks, post operative care, pain control, your prior experience with ear cropping, why you want to do this procedure, & recommendations for the length and style for your particular breed. Clients are given an estimate and educated about what we require in order to have a successful outcome including:
- The ideal age for surgery is 11-20 weeks.
- All patients should have at least two DHPP (distemper/parvo) vaccines and two de-wormings by a veterinarian prior to surgery
- We require pain control and use the best pre and post operative pain control available including a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and a fentanyl patch.
- Our comprehensive ear-cropping includes:
Pre-surgical blood panel, intravenous catheter, blood pressure and pulse oximetry
Pre-surgical tranquilizer/analgesic, valium/ketamine anesthesia, and isoflurance gas anesthesia
We utilize an IV fluid warmer & circulating warm water blanket during procedure
Surgeon’s fee including licensed RVT anesthetist and RVT surgical assistant
Ear crop surgery, high quality suture material, bandages, and hospitalization with IV throughout recovery
Fentanyl Patch, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory for 10 days, E-collar. Recheck the following day as well as ear
care and wrapping by experienced, trained state licensed registered Veterinary technicians until ears are standing.
